
The mosque lies to the south-west of Masjid ʿUmar ibn al-Khaṭṭāb under the name Masjid Saʿd ibn Muʿādh. Most likely this naming is due to his prominent role in the Battle of the Trench and the fact that he was wounded there.
It should also be noted that some people have called this mosque Masjid Fāṭimah al-Zahrāʾ but there is no basis for this designation in any of the historical sources.
